Imagine a library staff member schedules a meeting to talk with you. He offers students help designing PowerPoint slides, and when he works with students they are all very grateful that the library offers the service, but most people don’t seem to know about it. He is advertising the service on our public website, he has an instruction guide included in our research guides portal, and he also offers workshops on that topic which show up in feeds on our website. How would you consult with this staff member on a possible user experience research study to learn more about this situation? Staff needs to know what I do and how to make an appointment with me. Have a staff facing website and scheduling calendar. What more would you like to learn from the staff member? What is he actually trying to help students with? PowerPoint or presentation slides? Google slides. AI software? Would this person be willing to broaden their scope? Also, what successes has he had? What challenges? What additional investigation might you do separately? What are other libraries/departments doing on other campuses? What about Duke? Where are they advertising? Is there a speaking group on campus? What kind of outreach is possible? What kinds of studies might provide helpful answers, and how would you go about selecting from among those options?Generative study. Semi-structure
