Hello everyone, and welcome to this podcast! Today, I’m excited to talk about a project that’s close to my heart: a website I developed called "À Deux Boules", designed for pétanque enthusiasts. Let me take you through what this project is all about, how it works, and why it’s important. --- Pétanque is a friendly and social sport, but it can also feel isolating at times. One of the biggest challenges for players is finding people to play with or keeping up with local competitions. This is where "À Deux Boules" comes in. My website is a centralized platform that connects pétanque players, helps them find partners, and provides key information about competitions. --- Why did I create this website? Well, let me share some key facts. In Switzerland, there are 2,500 licensed pétanque players and around 100 clubs. Despite this growing community, there was no platform to bring everyone together. Players had to rely on word of mouth or personal connections, which made things complicated. I wanted to solve this problem by creating a simple, user-friendly website. --- Now, let’s dive into what makes "À Deux Boules" special. The site has six main sections: 1. "Home Page": This is where users are introduced to the mission of the website and the community. 2. 'Find a Partner": The core feature of the site, allowing users to search for players nearby based on their location and skill level. 3. "Competitions": A section dedicated to listing upcoming matches and events, complete with dates and locations. 4. "Gallery": A space to share photos from pétanque games and events. 5. "Testimonials": Users can leave reviews and share their experiences. 6. "Contact Page": A straightforward form for users to ask questions or join the platform. --- To create this platform, I used modern tools and technologies: - "HTML5 and CSS3": These were the backbone of the website, ensuring it works well across all devices. - "VSCode": A powerful code editor that helped me write and debug the code efficiently. - "GitHub Copilot": An AI tool that provided valuable suggestions and accelerated the development process. --- Like any project, this one had its challenges. One of the biggest was ensuring that the site was fully responsive. For example, the competition table didn’t display correctly on mobile devices. I resolved this by using "CSS media queries", which allowed me to adapt the layout to different screen sizes. --- One of the highlights of "À Deux Boules" is the "Find a Partner" page. This feature uses a form where users can filter results by location and skill level. It’s not just functional but also visually appealing, with a clean and modern design. --- Looking ahead, I have several ideas to enhance the site: 1. "Live Chat Feature': Allowing players to communicate directly. 2. "User Profiles": Adding personalized profiles with photos and descriptions. 3. "Performance Optimization": Ensuring the site loads faster and runs smoothly. --- To sum up, "À Deux Boules" is more than just a website; it’s a platform that connects pétanque players, simplifies the game, and fosters a sense of community. Whether you’re a beginner looking for your first game or an experienced player following competitions, this site has something for everyone. Thank you for listening, and I hope you’ve enjoyed learning about my project. If you’re interested, I encourage you to check out "À Deux Boules" and experience it for yourself. Until next time, take care and keep playing!
