Assignment Brief: You are to record your own true crime podcast episode covering the above AC on theories of crime causation. You can record this on your phone or laptop and upload this to Microsoft Teams by the due date alongside a bibliography and script. The episode should last somewhere between 10-15 minutes. 1. Briefly introduce your podcast and the episode. You should make the listener aware of what topics you will be covering in your episode. Your episode will be exploring theories of crime causation, specifically violent and aggressive crime. 2. Explain typologies, stereotyping and myths relating to violent crime (AC 3.2). This part of your episode should introduce the topic of violent crime by explaining two typologies of violent crime and stereotypes and myths relating to violent crime. For example, you may wish to discuss gender stereotypes in relation to violent crime and whether these are supported by empirical evidence or a myth. 3. Discuss psychological theories of crime causation (AC 2.1). You should discuss two psychological theories which explain criminal behaviour. For example, you may wish to discuss social learning theory and personality theory. 4. Discuss sociological theories of crime causation (AC 2.2). You should discuss two sociological theories of crime causation. In this part of your episode, you should consider concepts of morality and moral responsibility and evaluate issues surrounding this. For example, you may wish to evaluate morality and moral responsibility based on the concept of mens rea and how this effects moral responsibility in a criminal case. 7. Conclusion – conclude the episode by recapping the episodes main points. Consider whether any theory discussed explains criminal behaviour more accurately than others.
