Out of 107 810 people aged 15+ who experienced IPV, 79% were women. IPV cases were more than 3.5x higher among women than men. 44% of women who had been in an IPV relationship reported experiencing some kind of abuse in their life. 22,299 child/youth were victims of family violence. Rates of family violence against children/youth were higher in girls than boys. These rates were higher in rural areas rather than in urban areas. Indigenous Women (61%) in Canada were more likely to have experienced IPV in their lifetime in comparison to non-Indigenous women (44%). LGBT+ Women (67%) who had been in an IPV relationship experienced one type of IPV compared to 44% among heterosexual women. Almost half (49%) of LGBT+ indicated that they had been assaulted by an intimate partner. 4518 seniors (65+) experienced violence by a relative in Canada.
