Joseph

Absolutely, Sarah. My journey into gospel music began in my university days at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. I had a personal encounter with Jesus that changed my life completely. I felt a calling to spread God’s message through music, and that’s what has driven me ever since. Artists like Nathaniel Bassey, Dunsin Oyekan, and Don Moen have been a huge influence on my musical and spiritual journey.

John

That’s an incredible story, Joseph. The influence of those artists is evident in your work. Now, let’s talk about your latest release, 'He That Dwells in the Secret Place.' What inspired this song, and what message do you hope it conveys to your listeners?

Joseph

Thank you, John. 'He That Dwells in the Secret Place' is a song that came to life through the Holy Spirit’s inspiration. It’s drawn from Psalms 91 and speaks about finding refuge in God’s presence. The message is one of intimacy and protection. I want listeners to feel the same closeness to God that I feel when I sing this song. It’s a spiritual guide, inviting people to develop a deeper relationship with God.

That’s beautiful, Joseph. I can imagine how powerful that message must be for your listeners. Now, living in Lagos, which is such a vibrant and bustling city, how has it influenced your sound and your approach to music?

Joseph

Living in Lagos has been both a challenge and a blessing. The city’s energy and creativity push me to strive for excellence in my work. The competition in the gospel music scene here is intense, but it has helped me hone a sound that is both unique and purpose-driven. I focus on quality and ensuring that my music has a clear, spiritual message.

Joseph

In a music industry where content can sometimes take a backseat, I want to bring a refreshing focus on substance. My role is to provide listeners with spiritually edifying music that communicates Jesus’ message and builds a community united by faith. Through my lyrics and melodies, I aim to impact people’s lives positively, teaching the ways of God and shining a light on the path of faith.

That’s a noble vision, Joseph. How do you approach the songwriting process? Can you walk us through how you create a song that is both musically captivating and spiritually fulfilling?

Joseph

Sure, Sarah. My songwriting process is deeply spiritual. I often start with a melody that comes to me during prayer or worship. Once I have the melody, I let the lyrics flow from the scriptures, ensuring that they convey my faith and the message I want to share. This approach helps me create songs that resonate both emotionally and spiritually with my listeners.

John

That’s a fantastic approach, Joseph. Now, every artist faces challenges along their journey. What are some of the hurdles you’ve encountered, and how do you stay focused on your goals?

Joseph

The biggest challenge is staying unique and committed to delivering meaningful content. It’s easy to get caught up in the commercial aspects of the industry, but I remind myself of my calling and the impact I want to make. The Holy Spirit’s guidance helps me stay focused and true to my purpose.

That’s really admirable, Joseph. What are some of your aspirations and dreams for the future? Are there any collaborations or projects you’re particularly excited about?

Joseph

I’m excited about the possibility of collaborating with other gospel ministers like Nathaniel Bassey and Dunsin Oyekan. My dream is to create music that wins souls and builds a community united by faith. I also hope to reach a wider audience and bring the message of Jesus to people around the world.

Joseph

For those new to my sound, I recommend starting with my single, 'He That Dwells in the Secret Place.' It’s a powerful introduction to my message and purpose. Through my music, I hope to illuminate the path of faith and create a lasting impact that resonates with the teachings of Jesus.
