However, Torkoal managed to turn the tables with its Flamethrower, which was particularly effective. Shiftry then used Shadow Ball, but Torkoal countered with a well-timed Flamethrower, jumping into the air to land a critical hit and knock out Shiftry. It was a brilliant display of strategy and skill.

However, Pikachu took more damage and was unable to continue, giving Tyson the victory and a place in the semifinals of the Hoenn League.
