Welcome everyone to this week's podcast! I’m Leo, and I'm thrilled to have you join us today as we talk about the recent reunion of four old friends from Alva Academy. It's been five years since they've all been together, and they chose to reconnect over a hill walking trip in the stunning Glencoe. They faced some dreary weather forecasts, but as you’ll hear, their spirits were anything but low. So let’s get right into their adventure!

Flea

Thanks, Leo! It was really amazing to finally be back together after all this time. Glencoe was just the perfect backdrop for our reunion. The weather might have looked grim at first, but honestly, it felt like it added to the whole adventure, don’t you think?

g

Mal

Absolutely, Flea! I mean, what’s a good adventure without a little challenge? I certainly had my moments on the hike - let’s just say my mental state wasn't the best part of the journey, particularly when we had to climb that steep section. I remember yelling 'Don’t touch me!' and that just made everyone laugh.

g

Hoss

It was hilarious! But honestly, it was great to see everyone working together. I’d rate the whole experience a solid three out of five. There is definitely room for improvement, but the laughs we had made it worthwhile.

g

Tinas

Totally! And let’s not forget the local ales we enjoyed afterwards. That definitely lightened the mood! Plus, hearing everyone’s stories from the past and catching up on life was just so special. It's as if no time has passed at all.

You know, it’s fascinating how these moments help to rekindle those friendships, isn’t it? It’s like every shared laugh and story brings back those memories from school days. But I also find it interesting how each of you came to the trip with different experiences and challenges.

g

Mal

For sure, Leo. I mean, I reflected a lot during our hike. It made me think about how much I've changed as a person. Sometimes I feel happy but don't even realize it until moments like this. It’s a little weird, right?

g

Doug

You’re not alone, Mal. I felt that too. I’ve been training for this trip with some rowing and other exercises, which really paid off during the walk. But then I realized I have to be more careful about descents. I think it’s all part of growing up and learning how to respect our bodies and limits.

g

Tinas

And isn't that a part of life? Understanding our limits? I also want to add how great it was to have Martin there, even if he had a rough start with the navigation. He really showed courage in coming out during our trip. It’s inspiring to see him embrace who he is.

h

Leo

It really is inspiring, Tinas. It reminds me of how important it is to have our friends support us through the ups and downs. That’s what I love most about reunions like this. They not only reconnect us but also provide a safe space to grow and share struggles.

g

Flea

Exactly! And even with all the laughter and reminiscing, we also talked about our futures. Speculating about retirement dates was a funny touch. But honestly, I think most of us aren’t ready to hang up our boots just yet.

g

Mal

Right? It’s more about enjoying the ride and making memories with each other. And speaking of memories, I think our adventures in Glencoe will definitely be one for the books!

g

Hoss

Definitely! And, I think we should plan to do this again next year. Who knows what stories and experiences we’ll bring to the table next time?

h

Leo

I love that idea, Hoss! Planning ahead gives everyone something to look forward to. And who wouldn’t want another chance to enjoy the great outdoors together? Plus, health is so important too, it’s a great reminder to take care of ourselves.

g

Tinas

Absolutely, Leo! And just a quick reminder before we wrap things up—let’s not forget to get tested regularly. It’s part of taking care of ourselves and each other.

g

Mal

Well said, Tinas! It’s a little thing, but it can make a big difference. Here's to many more adventures and to maintaining our health while we enjoy life.
